"I'm Christopher Fulkerson.
"A shock wave has begun moving through the cab industry as of last week. It is the shock wave of our first awareness of your presumption about the cab industry.
"At the Taxi Advisory Committee last week Director Christiane Hayashi laudably answered a direct question with a direct answer. The question was, 'Where is the money going that is collected on the many unassigned medallions during the interim between their return by one holder and their issuance to another?' The answer was: 'The money is going into the MTA General Fund.'
"How dare you. How dare you. The mandate the people gave you is to do the governance of the Taxi Industry. Not to carve it up and consume it.
"It has been revealed that for decades the SFPD has been billing the cab drivers overtime for their own prosecution. This is not merely counterintuitive, it's unjust. Nobody in the public thinks this is fair.
"That's still going on. And now we have another predator, namely yourselves. The amount of money being drained off the cab industry has now doubled. You have siphoned off three quarters of a million dollars from the drivers.
"The same agency that is preventing our progress, among other things by denying the medical coverage earlier required by law, has also begun treating our industry as a cash cow. Please stop doing this."
